A dear friend recently asked me a question that made me travel deep inside.
It was about the connection between our Mind, Body and Soul. When I delved upon it, I could gather insights through reflection.
- Per the Upanishads – Our mind is finite. Our body is also finite. Whereas, our soul is infinite.
The reality as we see is this soul or the higher consciousness in our finite mind and body. In other words, the world is a projection or manifestation of that infinite consciousness through our finite mind.
My addition: Our body allows us to act in this perceived reality (illusion or Maya).
- My intuitive exploration: The way I see it, our mind and body are thick friends, you could say, more like conjoined twins. They do not or taher, cannot live without each other. They are good friends with our Soul. Although they are three thick friends, soul is aloof and can live on his own. These conjoined twins associate with the soul and express themselves through him and sometimes influence him. The soul which is unperturbed if left alone, with the influence of these two friends can think and act in worldly ways thereby cleansing or creating Karma, as applicable.
The moment we see them as three separate entities, it becomes easy to accept the perceived reality and remember our true selves.
- Another exploration of mine: The other way to understand Mind-Body-Soul connection is that the world as we see it, is ours to absolve our Karma and become one with the absolute truth. For this, the soul lessons need to be learnt which can happen only when we combine with a mind and body. The thus formed combination of Mind-Body-Soul, with the thoughts and actions, can learn the karmic/soul lessons.
* The soul has no gender. The above mentioned points may contain references to gender which is only for storytelling purposes.
